Amongst the scooter chaos of Samui is a stage spectacle that could compete with the best of any global stage show. Often dismissed simply as lady boys to gawkers and tourists, these gender-bending performers offers a nightly 2-hour review located in the closest thing Samui has to a La Cage Aux Follies. Accessed through an open-air walkway where hostesses lure the weary passerby, inside a Vegas-inspired stage show mixes cruise style reviews that are a mix of lip-syncing and actual singing outfitted in glittery costumes and big hair showery.<br /> <br />The Starz space is divided between a makeshift theater rows with cocktail service and main bar that is often perking with lady boys working the crowd for their own personal after shows. The performances range from cruise ship tacky to spot on impersonation with the better acts getting back-up dancers and the lesser acts having to foot it with their own wobbly dance moves. <br />
Tips
The ladies of Starz also perform every night at Ice Bar at 12:30pm as well as in the Reggae Bar following the show again at 1:30am.
Last Word
On our given night we weren’t sure if it was a Madonna or Shakira performing, with less quality in-between shows of raptor-looking talent that couldn’t quite land the main gig. There was, however, a great looking Lil’ Kim look-alike.
